| Strategically located in a ground-level shop house, behind a dark and obscure sliding door, you enter the elegant Italian restaurant, owned by chef-turned-restaurateur Roberto Galetti, via an antechamber cum bar complete with lounge seats and a walk-in wine cellar. A glass door leads to a grayish-green dining room that is illuminated by soft rays from rectangular metal-framed standing lamps; a narrow aisle connects this to an inner dining room. Skip the French-inspired starters such as roasted goose liver and opt for chef Galettiās spanner crab with avocado, orange and saffron sauce. From the pasta station, there is nothing profound or experimental, just well made pastas; we recommend the angel hair with morsels of lobster tossed in a tasty bisque-like lobster-shell reduced tomato-based sauce with sweet peas as well as the veal ravioli with chanterelle mushrooms in a cream sauce. The crowning glory, though, is the big-head prawns grilled with lemon, garlic and extra virgin oil; a simple dish cooked with precision to yield a juicy shellfish with an uncomplicated taste of sheer olive oil, with flesh that peels off its shell effortlessly. Meat lovers should not pass on the roasted lamb rack with mint sauce. End with the molten lava chocolate cake. |
