THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gastronomico Restaurant Review:

Gastronomico is a casual neighborhood gem, tucked into an inauspicious Los Feliz mini-mall. This family-run bistro is owned by Antonio Medina, former executive chef for Wolfgang Puck at Pacific Design Center, and his wife Lana. (They also own the popular food truck Gastrobus.) A chalkboard menu looks deceptively simple, but Medina’s cooking seems effortlessly sophisticated. Prices are reasonable --- the most expensive item (save for the fish of the day, which might be local bass) is the flavorful hanger steak at $14. Breakfast boasts a spicy sausage sandwich with fried egg and braised kale, or a light market-themed farm egg omelet. Mains include a juicy organic turkey burger and a crispy fried chicken with spinach salad. Our favorite is the Ecuadorian pulled pork sandwich, showcasing tender braised meat offset by crunchy pickled onions and tangy cilantro garlic aïoli. Medina’s farm-to-table ethos is underscored by a long list of seasonal vegetable dishes --- organic beets with citrus vinaigrette; sweet pea and feta with chili ginger; and fried cauliflower with tomato-leek ragoût. For dessert, try the banana and chocolate upside-down cake.
