Gaylord's Restaurant Restaurant Review: After a brief incarnation as the hyper-localized 22 North, Gaylord's has returned with an updated menu. There's still an emphasis on local ingredients, like the chipotle barbecued Kauai-raised pork chop served with a bundle of farm-fresh arugula and a side of Tuscan white beans, or the Kauai pasture-grazed grilled rib-eye teamed with buttermilk Maui onion rings. Mahi mahi is given a successful treatment, crusted with garlic whipped potatoes instead of the usual macadamia nuts. Shutome poached in extra virgin olive oil is delectably delicate and nicely paired with a lemon herb risotto. The pickled beet salad is a memorable starter, as is a caprese that adds avocado and mango to the usual tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, and dresses it with a vanilla bean infused balsamic syrup. The food is both satisfying and sophisticated, right down to the desserts --- a sticky fig pudding shines alongside a light Pavlova flavored with lilikoi cream and seasonal fruit. |
