What a story this legendary place could tell---of the politicians, the movie stars and the celebrities who have dined here. (And what a story the waiters could tell, should they deign to talk.) Steaks are the game (so to speak), and the silver-haired set in particular finds them to be some of the best aged, prime cuts in the city. Those under 50, however, tend to prefer glossy, more service-oriented spots like Gibson’s and Tavern on Rush. The Italian food? Sometimes it hits, sometimes it misses and no one seems to get too upset about it. On the other hand, the mussels marinara are something else, as are the cottage fries. This is a Chicago institution; just try not to let them seat you in one of the small rooms upstairs. |
