Dining room at Gene & Georgetti, Chicago, ILWhat a story this place could tell---ones of the politicians, the movie stars and the celebrities who have dined here. (And what a story the waiters could tell, should they deign to talk.) Steaks take center stage, and the silver-haired set in particular partakes of the aged, Prime cuts. Those under 50, however, tend to prefer glossy, more service-oriented spots like Gibson’s and Tavern on Rush. The Italian food? Sometimes it hits, sometimes it misses, and no one seems to get too upset about it. On the other hand, the mussels marinara are decent, as are the cottage fries. This is a Chicago institution; just try not to let them seat you in one of the small rooms upstairs. Occasionally, when conventions are in town, the restaurant opens on Sundays.
