Giannfranco's Trattoria Restaurant Review

: Part of Carpinteria’s ongoing gentrification, this family-run trattoria ended a decades-long history of sandwich shops at 666 Linden Avenue. While the food has been successful, the service and restaurant management frequently dip well below average. It’s a shame, too, because the kitchen turns out quality dishes. The dinner menu is comprised of pasta, fish, meat and poultry entrées. Notable among them: a well-balanced chicken paillard, the meat pounded thin and sautéed with fresh herbs, then served with garlic spinach, roasted potatoes and white wine pan deglaze. Double-cut short ribs are slowly braised in herbs and wine. Whole grain mustard beurre blanc complements the flavor of Atlantic salmon, translucent pink inside yet sharply seared. A garden patio behind the restaurant is a nice setting for locally inspired salads such as the Carpinteria caprese, with heirloom tomatoes plucked from nearby vines. The wine list is heavy on Italian and local bottles, and in addition to Italian standards like tiramisu, the dessert menu offers mini cheesecake and banana crème pie.
