THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gigi Brasserie Restaurant Review:
Located in the French-owned Hotel Sofitel, Gigi is a charming brasserie with Art Deco accents, classic black-and-white marble tile floors, and a generous use of dark-wood paneling. Black leather banquettes and white-linened tables line the generously-flowered room, while a lovely patio offers luxe garden furniture with vibrantly colored throw pillows and citrus trees in big terra cotta pots. It's unfortunate this restaurant is largely overlooked by locals, because the contemporary French menu is executed with considerable aplomb. Starters include Alaskan king crab cake with herb aïoli and lemon grass oil, sautéed foie gras and one of the best traditional French onion soups in town. Among entrées, you'll find a fine pepper-crusted filet mignon with both brandy-peppercorn and spicy béarnaise sauces, and a combo of veal filet and Maine lobster tail in a port wine reduction. Desserts---in particular, a selection of five intriguing flavors of crème brûlée---are definitely worth indulging in. Refreshingly different from many stuffy hotel dining rooms, Gigi makes a good choice for breakfast, as well.
