| Renowned for his Valentino in The Venetian, Piero Selvaggio has chosen “casual chic” with an array of whimsical touches for Caffè Giorgio. The modern design is complemented by colorful tiles backing the gelato stand and deli display cases, Italian crystal with imaginative waves forged by Italian artisans covering the bar’s counter and crystal balloons hanging from the bar-lounge’s ceiling. In keeping with Selvaggio’s love of wine, Caffè Giorgio’s wine racks are built into the wall that leads to the more subdued fine-dining area. True-taste-of-Italy menus are offered in the 90-seat caffè-lounge and the 50-seat main dining room. Caffè specialties feature seafood and vegetarian antipasti. Lunch sandwiches served with Parmesan-seasoned fries include the chicken Parmigiano on baguette bread. Among dinner appetizers, we like the antipasto offering of prosciutto San Daniele, Tuscan salame, and marinated artichokes and peppers. Served for lunch and dinner, the rigatoni with tomato, garlic, basil and mozzarella is a winner, as are pizzas such as the Quattro with mushrooms, olives, artichokes, mozzarella, ham and tomato sauce. Among desserts are cannoli filled with ricotta and chocolate chips, and ice praline mousse with vanilla gelato and caramel sauce. |
