THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Giovanni's Cafe Italiano Restaurant Review:
An 1880s vintage building is home to this interesting spot offering gutsy pasta, veal and chicken dishes on two floors. A broad, sweeping staircase leads to the second level, where there is one table for four tucked into the turret on the front of the building offering a birds eye view of the action on the street below. The list of Italian specialties doesnt offer surprises, but it is well-prepared by chef Franco Risso and served to tables against brick walls by an upbeat staff. Also on the second floor is a separate tearoom where Sheila Tinnion, formerly of North Wales, presides over afternoon tea. Somehow, the two elements make a happy, if unlikely, combination. House specialties include linguine tossed with meat sauce and topped with Italian sausage, fettuccine with prosciutto and cream, and house-made gnocchi.
