The Globe Dine Bar Restaurant Review: Located in the midst of sleepy Old Town Garden Grove, this modest restaurant does a solid job of trying to breathe life back into the neighborhood. Belgian-born Michael Pauwels is a student of Belgian craft beers, and his knowledge is evident in the list of 30 such brews on tap, including 18 rotating taps that are exclusive to the venue. They’re all available to pair with chef Steven Ontiveros’ eclectic comfort food. Starters such as grilled asparagus with shaved Parmesan and citrus oil and Gouda croquettes are simple and tasty, while chorizo empanadas show flair. Entrées are globally inspired, from thin-crust pizzas and the classic Continental favorite coq au vin to Belgian beer beef stew. Desserts have a strong European influence: a duo of Belgian chocolate mousse, a gelato sandwich topped with salted caramel. |
