THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Goad Barbecue Company Restaurant Review:
Mike and Lisa Goad (he's the pitmaster) operate a true-to-Texas (mostly) barbecue joint. The interior is functional and neat, if not atmospheric. We suggest the cumin-scented beans, which are not sweet like so many baked beans seen around town, and a combo plate featuring the first-rate fat-cap topped brisket and the sausage (made to order for the restaurant). There are ribs, too, but that brisket --- sweet and tender --- gets our attention. Three sauces are available; go for the house version. Mike acknowledges it's not as thin as what you would get in his home turf of Arlington, Texas, but it's close. Lisa is a Texas-style fried pie specialist so they're somewhat different from Georgia style as she uses fresh fruit and no lard in the crust. Try an apple fried pie. No alcohol.
