| Located a scant block from the MCI Center, this stagey modern-day pub occupies a turn-of-the-century bank building, where elegant marble columns and floors, wrought-iron window gratings and carved ceilings add charm. Although the service may straggle a bit, the staff is friendly and helpful, making the wait for the popular Southwest chicken sandwich with the intensely garlicky side of fries worthwhile. Starters include soups, pot stickers, crispy artichoke hearts and beer-battered onion rings. Main dishes encompass classic salads, brick-oven baked pizzas (how about a Thai chicken pizza with Asian barbecue sauce?), pastas, stir-fries and homey favorites like meatloaf with mashed potatoes. If you are a fan of banana splits, conclude your meal with a whipped cream-topped wedge of the banana split cheesecake nestled in a chocolate cookie crust. Like German lagers?
