Grand Sichuan Restaurant Review: This Chelsea restaurant is nearly a New York dining institution, and an old standby for above-average and classic Chinese. The restaurant formerly at Canal and Bowery fills a large space overlooking Ninth Avenue that has delivery bikes tethered at the curb. On each table is a stapled information packet explaining the restaurant's cooking techniques and the details of each dish. The menu is divided into categories such as Sichuan, Mao's Home Cooking and American Chinese Food (standards). Diners dig into well-made Sichuan wontons with spicy red oil, sliced conch with wild pepper sauce, moo shu chicken, or braised whole fish with hot bean sauce. The menu is endless, the prices are reasonable and the waitstaff is positively gracious. |
