| Foodies and socialites frequent this industrial cinderblock building near downtown. Spacious and noisy, the bistro is decked out in warm hardwood floors, mesquite tables and a sprawling chalkboard wine list packed with global choices. Sit down to fresh crusty sourdough bread from Kraftsmen Baking and dip into the extra-virgin olive oil and ducas seeds (a mix of almonds and sunflower and poppy seeds). The seasonal American menu, including dynamite salads like the hot sautéed shrimp sided with a heap of greens, and a meaty yellow and purple beet number atop arugula, baby spinach and fried onion strings, dazzles. A plump roasted chicken breast boasts crackly golden skin and comes with fried cornbread and caramelized shallots. For beef, there's the affordable steak frites with a pile of dewy roasted mushrooms; or you might find a braised beef bourguignon with potato purée and asparagus as a special. Do snag the meaty lamb shank when it's available. Lunch is mostly about burgers and substantial sandwiches. Before dinner, settle into the lounge, Sidebar, for a pre-dinner cocktail or snack. |
