THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Gray Whale Restaurant Review:
Named for the majestic whales migrating just off shore, this quaint, rambling cottage tucked under the cliffs at the far end of Zuma Beach has long been a prime spot for whale watching. Weddings are held here almost every weekend and you, too, may come for that romantic sunset dinner along the wind-swept beach. Chances are, though, it's the cuisine for which you'll return. Remember when food was prepared tableside? Well, select the tender steak Diane with a mushroom-mustard cream sauce, Caesar salad or crêpes and you'll have the pleasure of watching your sauces and dressings made to order for you. Or start with the wild mushrooms in a puff pastry shell and move on to the macadamia nut-crusted halibut with fresh raspberry sauce. The light and fluffy chocolate crème brûlée is a tad like mousse, but more special for its crunchy caramel topping. Come on Wednesday nights and enjoy the piano bar before or after dinner.
