| A tasting room provides a bird's-eye view of the shiny steel tanks and antique bar that Eliot Ness once bellied up to. The cellar bar is less bright, but even more bona fide. While the beer is the main draw here, the food is a reputable co-star. The sweet potato fries, Stilton-cheddar ale soup (made with one of the pubs’ beers) and pulled pork sandwich are among our favorites. Add that to the fact that the burgers are juicy, and the coleslaw is tangy. Plus, each dish comes with a recommended Great Lakes beer pairing; for instance, the Dortmunder Gold lager is paired with a bratwurst and pierogi plate for a sticky, rich and spicy meal. For dessert, don’t miss the Great Lakes’ signature bread pudding, best paired with Eliot Ness Amber lager. |
