| This secluded TriBeCa restaurant is an exercise in subtlety. The sparingly decorated, wood-clad dining room gives the impression of a marriage between an izakaya and a trattoria. The cuisine, in turn, blends the subdued, pure flavors of Japanese cuisine with the considerably bolder tastes of Italy. The delicate fish carpaccio, for example, is served on a bed of greens in a soy citrus marinade and makes for light overture. Among the entrées, the zuwai crab and bottarga spaghetti is a delightful pairing of Italian pasta and the sinewy, sweet flavors of Japanese crab. For a heartier option, go for the grilled Kobe steak, prepared in the classic steakhouse style minus the frites. The wine list offers a limited selection of reds and whites, all reasonably priced and served by the glass or carafe. For those opting for an Eastern pairing, there is an extensive list of sojus and sakés meticulously selected to complement the menu. |
