The Grill at The Dorchester Restaurant Review:

If you haven't seen The Grill at The Dorchester before, then you are in for either a shock or a wow moment as the room is high Scottish baronial with a touch of grand whimsy. Reds and greens and tartans dominate, along with huge murals of heroically posturing Scots. But try not to be distracted as both the cooking and the ingredients are firmly native and top quality. Chef Brian Hughson, ex Rhodes W1 and the Savoy Grill, oversees the kitchen. Starters might include blue lobster chowder with mushroom, and coddled egg with leeks and black truffle. The focus on local sourcing continues with dishes like wild venison with butternut squash, carrot and chestnut. Desserts range from the "Essentially chocolate" from Alain Ducasse Manufacture in Paris to bread and butter pudding. Service is enthusiastic and not pompous yet efficient to the point of invisibility. The wine list ranges the world with some first-rate regional French wines and, of course, classic vintages. Ordering à la carte can add up, but then this is a top London hotel. Set lunch 2 courses £29, 3 courses £39.
