THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Hake Kitchen & Bar Restaurant Review:
After a round of renovations, The Hake Kitchen & Bar now also boasts ocean views like its neighbors on Prospect Street in La Jolla. Managing partner Ricardo Dondisch has several restaurants in Mexico City, including Puntarena and Marentino headed by creative chef Federico Rigoletti. Those global brasseries inspired this concept. From the raw bar offerings, start with hamachi tiradito (Peruvian-style sashimi) with miso, jalapeño and garlic chips. Moving on to shareable appetizers, you’ll find the restaurant's namesake Mediterranean fish in a smoked preparation with bone marrow, red onion escabeche and grilled naan. Main courses include mussels and catch of the day spiked with a guajillo broth and garbanzo beans. End the meal with the interesting savory cheesecake with goat cheese, Gorgonzola, honey, pecans, rosemary and seasonal fruit or Key lime semifreddo. Choose your beverage from a selection of wines, mezcals, local draft beers and signature cocktails. Grand 5 Masts, featuring Malahat Spirits Co. spiced rum and ginger rum, Grand Marnier and lime, was the winner of Grand Marnier's Grand Masters Bartender Competition. Espresso lovers will appreciate the Lavazza program and Brasilia machine ready to meet their caffeine needs.
