Hama Sushi & Grill Japanese Restaurant Restaurant Review: Most mealtimes are crowded, even though the space has been doubled to incorporate a sushi bar, regular dining tables and a special screened-off area for Japanese-style dining events: Patrons remove their shoes, pad across the tatami mats and sit on cushions. This Herndon eatery has gained its reputation because of its ultra-fresh sushi, but the kitchen turns out a fair array of other typical Japanese dishes, from several teriyakis and tempuras to the filling and satisfying donburi dishes, best for chilled winter eves. Especially good is the chirashi sushi, loaded with plenty of fresh fish and some crunchy pickled vegetables. The only drawback: as the restaurant has expanded, its service seems slower. Maybe management needs to hire another sushi chef or two.
