| One of the first major chili houses in the area, Hard Times excels at what it does best: making power-packed chilis in three different styles---Texas, Cincinnati and vegetarian. And even among these categories, the kitchen offers choices: with spaghetti, with beans, with cheese, and-or with onions. Our favorite is the tried-and-true Texas chili with coarse-ground meat served with beans and topped with cheese and onions. Non-chili dishes include sandwiches and salads, but one might ask: why bother with these? Responding to America's love for the chili bowl, each café sells pints, quarts and gallons of chili to-go, plus its sweet cornbread. You can also find Hard Times' T-shirts, hot sauces and spice mixes. Other locations. |
