Harry’s standing as a nightlife destination can’t overshadow its equally strong reputation for imaginatively prepared and presented contemporary cuisine. Favorites include the tenderloin sandwich on a garlic-cheese bun and seafood gumbo over wild rice. Not to be overlooked are the steaks, like the garlic-rubbed tenderloin with peppercorn sauce. The wine list is weighted toward reds to accompany the proteins and pizzas. Everything fits the St. Louis tradition of very large portions. It’s hard to believe the postcard-perfect view of the Arch and Union Station used to belong to an auto body shop. Now, daytime brings crowds of big shots congregating under the boldly colored archways to take in the view of the St. Louis skyline. At night, the bar’s 3 a.m. closing time (combined with a handy shuttle bus) makes it a popular spot for a nightcap after sporting events and concerts.
