Great Wine List* Click here for rating key
| It’s hard to believe the postcard-perfect view of the Arch and Union Station used to belong to an auto body shop. Now, crowds of big shots congregate under the boldly colored archways to take in the view of the St. Louis skyline from tall windows (and from the all-seasons patio outside). Inside, the feel is contemporary. And the food? It's surprisingly good and imaginatively prepared and presented. Favorites include a particularly impressive veal liver and onions, with a hint of vinegar as a flavor booster. Not to be overlooked are the steaks---from the tenderloin tips with gnocchi to the blue cheese-drenched, blackened sirloin. The wine list is weighted toward reds to accompany them. Everything fits the St. Louis tradition of very large portions. The bar’s 3 a.m. closing time (combined with a handy shuttle bus) makes it a popular spot for a nightcap and a build-your-own specialty pizza after downtown sports events. |
