You could drive by Harvest a hundred times and never realize this cheery little eatery is nestled between the appliance store and garden center that anchor a nondescript strip mall. This is sad for you: you're missing out on the Hartford area's best all-day breakfast. But it's a boon for loyal diners, whose only gripe is what torment it is to wait for a table while staring at bakery cases filled with tantalizing sweets. It gets hectic at Harvest, but if something goes amiss, staff is quick to make amends. Your little one's almost done with her monkey-shaped pancake and still no sign of her hot chocolate? It appears topped with a mountain of whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. While the lunch hour adds to the menu fresh salads, homemade soups and specialty sandwiches like the Pilgrim Melt --- roasted turkey, sharp cheddar and cranberry sauce on fresh-baked Anadama bread --- even grown-ups gravitate toward twists on traditional a.m. fare like croissant french toast, Gorgonzola scramble or Farmer's Benedict: a pair of poached eggs atop shredded potatoes with bacon crumbles and cheddar hollandaise. Flavored coffee is bottomless, so ask for a hot refill and order dessert. Better yet: Take home a dozen mini cannolis, red velvet whoopie pies or pumpkin cupcakes finished with cranberries, pecans and cinnamon buttercream.
