We are not trying to be dramatic when we tell you that the portions at Andy Beardslee's funky restaurant are in fact monstrously big. Generosity aside, this place is pure fun. Best known as a breakfast spot, Hash House also serves up creative lunches and dinners. On a lazy Sunday, we enjoy indulging in the brown sugar-banana pancakes with apple-smoked bacon or the sausage gravy with biscuits, eggs and potatoes (mounds of them). Lunchtime favorites are the Kokomo (griddled meatloaf, roasted tomato and smoked mozzarella on old-fashioned milk bread) and the roast beef Sloppy Joe with house-made barbecue sauce, charred tomatoes and horseradish sour cream. For dinner, we lean towards the pork selections: the hand-hammered pork tenderloin breaded in panko and fried crispy is a hit as well as the braised pork ribs. Anything made with butternut squash (soup, risotto, mashed side dishes) are a sure bet, as is anything with corn (including the fried polenta).
