Weve always liked this spunky contender in Mission Valley, where cavernous chains far outnumber stylish dining rooms. Here, Western interpretations of Japanese cuisine have resulted in such successful hybrids as the Akawine filet mignon, served with sauce bordelaise and traditional Japanese garnishes, and skewers of poached shellfish accompanied by hollandaise sauce. The kushi katsu, breaded, deep-fried seafood and pork bits with vegetables, never fails to please us, and the raw fish is so good that you might have to wait to nab a seat at the sushi bar.
