Dining room at Heartland Cafe, Chicago, IL

This jovial spot may not be 100 percent vegetarian (chicken and fish are served, plus the occasional steak or buffalo chili), but there's enough to please those who are seeking alternative cuisine. Carrot juice is first-rate, as are the “burgers” prepared from vegan black beans, turkey or grass-fed buffalo, and the fruit cobblers. Beyond that, the menu offers up salads, steamed vegetables and breaded chicken tacos. There is an adjacent general store that is stocked with health-centric books and magazines. Entertainment on the weekend completes the retro '70s attitude.

Great spot for Veggie and not Outdoor Patio Music Bars by randy on 07/20/2011

Had agreat outdoor dinner here yasterday. Good macro plate and excellent cornbread. Has a nice hippie feel and a nice quiet outdoors, Inside looks cool too. A couple of Bars and theaters nearby made for good people watching and the lake only two blocks away was a nice after dinner stroll
