Heidelberg Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Heidelberg is the real deal when it comes to old-fashioned, traditional German dining. The dark-wood interior hasn’t changed since the restaurant opened, and we hope it won’t. This anti-trendy spot which debuted in 1936 is a true classic --- bring your dirndls and lederhosen and you’ll fit right in.

Likes: The authenticity of the restaurant attracts German visitors as well as those of German heritage and it is a wonderful choice on a cold evening.
Dislikes: You’ll need patience between rounds of beer, as the beer is poured in the traditional slow-pull manner.

Food & Drinks: One of the few remnants of Yorkville’s German neighborhood, Heidelberg still packs them in, with entire families joining beer-thirsty singles in indulging in stick-to-your-ribs schnitzel, sauerbraten, wursts and potato pancakes. Updates to Old Country favorites like schnitzel vinaigrette with salad on top are equally delicious but should still be washed down with a hearty Hofbraü Dunkel or Erdinger Weissbier. German wines are offered as well. On weekends, it feels like Oktoberfest never ended, no matter what the month. Plunk down your deposit and you’ll get a two-liter glass boot full of beer; it’s up to you whether you feel like sharing or not. Flaky apfelstrudel is a tasty finish.
