THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Hemingway's Restaurant Review:
Nicely located on the edge of Sarasota's premier strolling-and-shopping area, St. Armand's Circle, Hemingway's isn't quite what you might expect. There's no Hemingway except in the name, thanks in part to a lawsuit about who owns the rights to the late American author's image and name. Still, the restaurant has managed to capture nostalgia with lots of photos of Sarasota's recent past---1920-1950---before the huge influx of tourism and development. The restaurant likes to decorate for off-season special occasions, such as Christmas in July. The menu, though, is traditional: prime rib, filets, chicken, ribs, lobster tail, and four or five choices of fresh fish each day. One entrée is grouper Oscar---grouper sautéed and topped with crab meat, asparagus and hollandaise sauce. Dessert is a fairly standard mix and includes Key lime pie and mud pie (an Oreo cookie crust with chocolate mocha ice cream).
