| The Lyn-Lake neighborhood was hungry for the kind of hangout Herkimer provides. There's no glitzy theme and no starving artists' work hanging on the walls. There is, however, a jukebox and tabletop shuffleboard in the back. It would almost remind you of a mellow hole-in-the-wall---if it weren't for the menu. It’s shooting for above-average burgers and chicken-type fare that goes with freshly made brews. The kitchen turns out some decent and tasty sandwiches, including a grilled portobello number served on toasted focaccia with a piquant olive salad on the side. Grilled chicken is slathered with a fragrant sun-dried tomato pesto sauce. Burgers are always a good bet here; sample the Cajun version for a spicy hit with your local lager. Consistency is a work-in-progress but the locals don't seem too bothered. The brews change often and range from nutty ales to tart bocks. They brew them as fast as they can to feed the crowds, which means they often run out and your selection becomes limited. |
