| Straddling the last corner on Somerville's Highland Avenue is Highland Avenue Cuisine, an awkward yet capable and cheap outpost of Creole and African-inspired cooking. The design scheme looks like a suburban Chinese restaurant circa 1982: faded pink tablecloths, flickering torchieres, plastic-covered tables. Conch come swimming in a brown sauce that is smoky and unctuous; beef-veggie stew is particularly piquant. Each dish initiates a yummy onslaught of rice and beans, fried plantains and green salad. It amounts to a fair bang for your buck. |
