Hill Cafe Restaurant Review

: This Clinton Hill restaurant serves up French-accented fare with a global twist. The chef, who hails from the Ivory Coast and was trained in Paris, does an admirable job with dishes like moules frites, where the mussels are infused with absinthe for an extra flavor kick. Phyllo-wrapped shrimp, splashed with salsa and corn, make a good start to any meal, with their flaky exterior giving way to juicy shrimp, creating textural interest. Grazers should consider the chèvre salad, its beets effervescent on the palate. For heartier fare, there’s a rich beef bourguignon and decent steak frites. Be sure to save room for the apple and plantain tarte, drizzled with jalapeño and caramel sauce. The wine list spans the globe and includes some good and affordable selections by the glass.
