In its many-years history, the building that’s now Hilltop 1892 restaurant was everything from a private home to a suite of offices to, for many years, a simpler restaurant. Now completely refurbished inside and out, Hilltop boasts ten-mile views of hills and countryside, a carefully crafted contemporary décor and seasonally-changing California cuisine. The dining room is tiered so that no matter where you sit you get a panoramic view from the huge, lightly screened windows that ring the place. The raw oysters are accompanied by the surprise of ginger vodka granita. Crispy calamari are zested with caper aïoli, pepperonicini and red chili peppers. In season, heirloom salad is a celebration of multi-colored tomatoes, tender mozzarella and fresh local basil. Every entrée comes with starch and sides; you’ll find creative tastes and textures on each plate, such as a thick, juicy Coho salmon steak teamed with Thai black rice, celery root slaw and lobster butter. The Hilltop specialty burger is a dressed-up affair, garnished with Brie, sweet-and-sour red cabbage and roasted tomato aïoli with fries.
