Owners Peter Boulukos and Tim Petrillo have strong backgrounds as, respectively, chef and dining room manager. This sophisticated and surprisingly affordable neighborhood bar and grill clearly profits from their experience, and, in a behind-the-scenes way, is also boosted by their exuberance. Chef Boulukos, for instance, goes the extra yard by working with local farmers and fishermen to guarantee fresh, locally produced seafood, produce, prime meats and poultry. They cook local but think global, the resultant fusion-eclectic and boldly satisfying. Appetizers include duck confit with golden raisin polenta, empanadas stuffed with curried lamb, and a spicy tortilla soup plumped with pulled pork. Skirt steak with chili sauce, grilled dolphin wrapped in Napa cabbage, and seared snapper with rock shrimp and tomatillo are about as scrumptious as an entree under $25 can be. The wine list is smartly composed of interesting boutique selections and the service is crisply professional. |
