Occupying a former mortuary may not seem like a winning formula for a restaurant, but Holly Street’s historic setting is very much alive. A short walk from Old Pasadena, this unfussy place features an interior enhanced by art from a local gallery as well as a charming patio for al fresco dining. The menu is all over the map: tabbouleh from the Middle East, seared ahi from the Pacific Rim and grilled salmon from the Northwest. The picnic of roasted garlic, blue cheese and tapenade is très Provençal, while the pastas pay homage to Tuscany. No corkage fee is charged here, delighting those who enjoy bringing their own wine.
