The Honor Bar

The Honor Bar Restaurant Review:

With its corner location and outdoor seating under bright yellow umbrellas, The Honor Bar beckons travelers on Coast Village Road. Housed in a Spanish colonial building, the interior is quite small, taken up with a center bar facing an open kitchen --- so seating goes fast and wait times can be long. A few booths hug the walls. Waiters in black vest and tie maneuver easily throughout the tight quarters, yet service is hit and miss. The menu is limited, but solid with its choices. For a starter, consider the herbaceous trout dip, or the deviled eggs with pickle relish and scallions. For mains, the classic French dip with an earthy au jus is satisfying, as is the fluffy spinach omelet and the seared ahi with shiitake ponzu sauce. But it is the burgers that are the signature dish --- fresh ground beef and cheddar, topped with coleslaw. A small wine list provides predominately local wines, as well as a smattering from Europe and Napa. Cocktails are also available and a small selection of beers. Dogs are welcomed at the outdoor patio.
