Great Wine List* Click here for rating key
Chef Wilhelm “Bill” Hoppe long championed Central Coast wines when most locals didn’t realize they even had a wine country. The savvy European-trained chef knew it was only a matter of time, but Hoppe’s sterling reputation filled his restaurant with wine-and-food-loving tourists. The chef hand-selects each of his wines, offering over 200 of the finest from California and France along with gems from other great regions. Of course, it’s his soulful cooking that continues to lure foodies. His menu, while decidedly old European, also offers appealing contemporary dishes. You can feast on smoked pheasant ravioli with wild mushrooms and navarin of organic lamb with polenta. Or go thoroughly modern with the “tower of power,” featuring ahi, scallops and foie gras; or Kobe top sirloin topped with Cajun-style crawfish hollandaise. You’ll enjoy a quintessential brunch in Hoppe’s flower garden, with the choice of a prix-fixe three-course breakfast or à la carte options. Try the butter lettuce salad with Champagne vinaigrette, prosciutto-wrapped scallops with spicy crayfish and decadent scalloped potatoes, or the artful roasted artichoke and shrimp salad. Bread-lovers swoon over the basket of warm-from-the-oven treats, almost satisfying enough on its own. |
