THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED It’s getting hard to distinguish the chain restaurants at Buckland Hills. Hops sets itself apart with fresh microbrews---don't pass up the Lightning Bold Gold (an American-style lager) or Thoroughbred Red (a full-bodied amber ale)---and good service. Though the menu is mostly formulaic, the items are fresh and prepared with care. Appetizers include nachos, chicken tenders, Asian pot stickers, jalapeño peppers and grilled shrimp. For entrées, the 14-ounce New York strip is a good cut; get it Parmesan-crusted or smothered with sautéed onions, mushrooms and Jack cheese. Piscivores will appreciate the daily fresh catch. And parents will approve of the wide-ranging kids’ menu.
