| For nearly 30 years, this Santa Fe restaurant for good New Mexican grub has been filling the bellies of chow hounds with its dangerously intoxicating Level One and Level Two green chiles, the latter of which is made with remarkably hot chilies plucked straight from owner Louie Romero's garden. Service is efficiently brisk, the décor is pure, unadulterated kitsch with a cowboy theme and the menu is a straight-up tribute to classic New Mexican staples. The breakfast burritos, sided with home fries and smothered with earthy red chile, green chile or both, are legendary; we also suggest the green chile cheeseburger, a half-pound, freshly-ground mound of sirloin heaped with fresh green chilies. If you want to hang with the locals---and trust us, you do---snag a seat at the counter, order a beer and a plate of blue cheese enchiladas and get to know the regulars, of which there are many. |
