Enter the lobby of the Hotel Montefiore and be transported back to the Great Gatsby era, with its decadence and style. The plush setting resonates with the spirit of the eclectic, restored 1922 building. Start the evening with a cocktail, perhaps the Tarragon 36 with Stoli citrus, pineapple juice, lime and fresh tarragon. The diverse menu includes Vietnamese, French and Indian influences. As you relish your drink, nosh on appetizers like the Tuna Yuzu made with tuna sashimi served on tender slices of kohlrabi and flavored with yuzu, red chili and parsley. Or try the crisp Vietnamese spring roll filled with shrimp and sesame-drizzled cabbage, best savored with the fresh lettuce and mint leaves served on the side. Main courses range from French classics such as the tournedos Rossini to Indian offerings of chicken tikka made with a fiery yogurt sauce. The wine list holds a pairing for any dish; the Pelter Sauvignon Blanc is a good complement to many of the rich, spicy items. For dessert, you can’t go wrong with any of the pastries and cakes, most notably the “Coffee Bar Cheesecake."
