House of Bagels Restaurant Review: Given this is an offshoot of the family-owned bakery in San Francisco, rest assured that the bagels are the real deal: chewy, not bready, and “toppings” on both the top and the bottom. Over a dozen flavors are available daily until they aren’t, including a few whole-wheat varieties --- we like the “everything.” Choose from several cream cheese schmears or smoked salmon accompaniments. Most of the sandwiches are straightforward takes on deli varieties, with the exception of the “eggs and hotties” breakfast sammie with jalapeños and sausage. There’s also bagel crust pizza by the slice or by the pie; fans of thin crust won’t like it, but bagel and overall bread lovers will. Espresso drinks and fruit smoothies can be ordered as well.
