Dining room at Sorrell Urban Bistro The chefs may not use sorrel in every dish and cocktail, but the herb is definitely in evidence at the new Sorrel Urban Bistro in the old Ziggy's Healthy Grill in Upper Kirby. Ray Salti, owner of Ray's Gourmet Country in Fulshear, wanted an inner-loop concept and he and Danish chef Sorren Pedersen, settled on this spot. The blackboard menu changes daily but is focused on farm-to-table foods complemented by organic wines. The 40-seat charcuterie bar is open late for wine, cocktails and meat and cheese plates. Sorrel Urban Bistro, 2202 W. Alabama St., Houston, TX 77098, 713-677-0391.

The local Don Julio's franchise---based in Cypress, Dickinson and Seabrook---has moved inside the loop. Taking over the former La Strada and Caffe Bello location on Westheimer Road, the eatery is offering Tex-Mex classics and the signature Texas Mud, a four-layer dip of black beans, pico de gallo, queso and beef, plus stiff margaritas like the Jose Cuervo Reserve tequila and Grand Marnier margarita. Don Julio’s Mexican Restaurant, 322 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77006, 713-522-4700.

It's Last Supper time at Michael Cordua's iconic Américas on Post Oak Boulevard. The Latin eatery with a whimsical décor opened in 1993 and had a good run. But Cordua opened a new Américas in the trendy River Oaks Shopping Center last year and a new location in The Woodlands. The original Post Oak site is scheduled for demolition to make way for a multi-use center. Américas, Pavilion Mall, 1800 Post Oak Blvd., Houston, TX 77056, no phone.
