Four Paws Up for Paws on Patios
Houston is one of the few major cities that prohibits dogs on restaurant patios. Although the ordinance wasn’t enforced until a few years ago, recently formerly dog friendly restaurants have been forced to post “no dogs allowed” signs or face fines. Now, a new Facebook group called Paws on Patios is trying to change that. Created by Houstonian Patrick Walsh, the grass-roots effort has more than 500 supporters, including several restaurants. The mission is to change the city ordinance to allow restaurants and bars to decide if they want to allow dogs on patios.

Chef Chip Hight Opens Catering Company
Chef Chip Hight, formerly of 17 restaurant at the Alden-Houston hotel, has launched a catering company called Blue Apron Caters. But more than just serving wonderful food, Hight has partnered with Centralized Real Estate Services to provide unique party locations. “I have seen firsthand how interesting venues are at a premium,” says Hight. “I am also keenly aware of how many people love the idea of a residential setting for a party, but would rather not use their own home because of the hassle.” Blue Apron Caters’ venues include River Oaks and Memorial area homes and outdoor venues for 10 to nearly 400 guests. Parties start at $1,000 and the flat fee includes venue, food and staff.

Feast Opens for Lunch
Good news for Feast fans, the offal is now offered for lunch. The nose-to-tail restaurant has opened for lunch Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Specials include two- and three-course meals for under $20. The menu changes daily but Feast favorites such as Welsh rarebit, crispy roasted pork belly, Cock-a-Leekie and fish pie are standards. Feast opened in 2008 and now has a sister restaurant in New Orleans. Feast, 219 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77006, 713-529-7788.

Sullivan’s Steakhouse New Menu
Sure, Sullivan’s Steakhouse has great steaks, but now the downtown restaurant has added some new menu items not often found at steakhouses. Executive chef Teli Trikilis has created cheese steak eggrolls, a Dijon chicken pretzel sandwich and an open-faced crab melt for lunch. New dinner items are more traditional, like the ahi tuna steak and a chili crusted rib-eye. Live music and chilled martinis still abound. Sullivan's Steakhouse, 4608 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77027, 713-961-0333.
