When the longtime Cuban hole-in-the-wall Latina Cafe closed, hardly anyone thought it would be resurrected as a farm-to-fork restaurant. But that’s exactly what's happening as new chef/owner Kevin Naderi, who helped Randy Evans open Haven to great acclaim, is doing. The 25-year-old chef hopes to have Roost up and running in early December, transforming the former home of cheap Cuban sandwiches into a place where folks can dine on locally sourced meals for $20 and under. Roost will seat 50, and Naderi’s menu will boast 16 items culled from Asia, France, Persia and the Southern U.S. Roost will offer beer, wine and wine cocktails. Roost, 1972 Fairview St., Houston, TX 77019, no phone.
