HOUSTON RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Houston’s only downtown revolving restaurant reopens October 6 after closing for a $1.4 million renovation. The Hyatt Regency’s The Spindletop, shuttered since Hurricane Ike in 2008, has long been a scenic spot for anniversary dinners and special dates. “We’ve been fielding questions for two years from locals and hotel guests asking when Spindletop will reopen,” says Allison Butcher, Spindletop manager. “The final product will truly be the crowning achievement to our $50-million hotel renovation.” Led by the hotel’s long-time executive chef, Jean Moysan, the culinary team has created a new Spindletop menu focusing on fresh seafood items, including seared tuna and seafood paella. Other items include pasta entrees; signature salads, fresh-tossed tableside; and homemade desserts from the pastry shop. Spindletop is open for dinner only from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday. The restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday. For more details, visit www.SpindletopHouston.com. Spindletop, Hyatt Regency, 1200 Louisiana St., Houston, TX 77002, 713-654-1234.

Chef Shuffle

Midtown’s sleek Sushi Raku has a new executive chef. After the departure of chef Taka, who returned to Japan due to a family illness, the restaurant has hired chef Adison Lee. Chef Lee brings seventeen years of Japanese cooking experience to Suski Raku's kitchen. Lee hails from Tokyo but has worked in kitchens around the world, including the famed Nobu in New York City. Chef Lee plans to add ten new appetizers, entrées, and dessert items to Sushi Raku’s menu, while maintaining the vibe of the existing cuisine. He’ll also be selecting daily specials for the restaurant. Sushi Raku, 3201 Louisiana St., Houston, TX 77006, 713-526-8885.
