| Unless you go early or late, expect a considerable wait for a table---but you can grab a drink from the bar and slide into one of the Adirondack chairs on the wraparound patio with a nice breeze off Lake Killarney. Houston's bar is packed by 6 p.m., though not everyone there is waiting for a coveted table. Once you get a seat, the waitstaff snaps into action, and the food is delivered pronto. Portions are generous, so we skip the trademark spinach-artichoke dip and go straight for the salads, sandwiches and specials. It's one of the few places we can recommend the veggie burger, with a batch of crisp, skinny fries. Some patrons come just for the mashed potatoes, but we prefer them with a slice of the prime rib or a grilled steak. Kids like the tempura-battered chicken fingers. Linger over a cappuccino, but not too long---the next wave of diners is patiently waiting for your table. |
