Tom Kaufman (Rancho Pinot) and his partners call it a "modern, adult American pizzeria," which means it’s as much upscale wine bar as it is primo pie palace. Despite the name, there’s nothing humble about the ingredients: homemade mozzarella, McClendon Farms produce, Schreiner's sausage and, of course, homemade dough and sauces. The list is short, with just ten personal-size pizzas like a margherita, pepperoni, and the wild mushrooms-pancetta-red onion-mozzarella or prosciutto-pears-arugula-Gorgonzola. Other decadent nibbles arrive on small plates, like chilled green beans with toasted hazelnuts, burrata, tomato and pesto; and crispy penne with lemon zest and Pecorino cheese. Pair ’em with the extensive, well-priced wine list (flights are a good way to go) or 20 craft beers.
