| This hidden gem cousin of the now-closed, much-lauded Henry Chung’s Original Hunan Restaurant in San Francisco serves fiery dishes that will definitely make you cry. Start with the bean sprout salad---bean sprouts, carrots and cucumber in a hot and sour chunky peanut butter dressing---and the crispy scallion cakes. Pork-lovers must try the house-smoked Hunan ham in a blazing hot gravy with bamboo shoots, bell peppers and cabbage and the Harvest Pork, a twice-cooked concoction of pork, carrots, cabbage, lots of garlic and spicy bean sauce. Other specialties include garlic chicken and a hot and sour vegetable medley. Even though the food is fiery, the flavors still manage to balance and shine through. |
