THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Hyakumi Restaurant & Sushi Bar Restaurant Review:
Amid the ever-greater proliferation of specialized Japanese eateries --- sushi bars, ramen shops, teppanyaki grills, tofu restaurants and so on --- we're happy to find that this versatile place still thrives. Upscale Japanese homes were the inspiration for the lovely design, which features a stone facade and imported Japanese fire-glazed roof tiles reminiscent of Shinto shrines. The dining tables and sushi bar counter are topped with imported uba tuba Italian polished dark-green granite embellished with gold flakes. Sushi chefs deftly turn out more than 40 items. The dining room features appetizers such as tempura shrimp with vegetables, sunomono --- sliced octopus with cucumber in vinegar sauce --- and a sushi sampler. Robata grill options include king crab, scallops, jumbo shrimp, and vegetables and shishito peppers. Among three teppanyaki feasts is the Hyakumi which begins with tiger shrimp accompanied by zucchini and onions, followed by miso or chicken soup, marinated cucumber with crab meat and Prime tenderloin steak, breast of chicken, lobster tail and Japanese vegetables. À la carte chocolate cake with kumquat syrup and the bento sampler are dessert winners. The sushi bar is also open for lunch.
