Il Bel Lago Restaurant Review

: Frank Gabriele grew up at Giovanni's, his father's restaurant on The Hill, and he became a fine chef and a smooth host. Now he and his brother Carmelo have their own place, a simple, handsome main room and a lively bar where happy hour brings out a see-and-be-seen West County crowd. It’s worth trusting the kitchen with either the risotto or the veal creation of the day. The signature dish, a broiled veal chop with black truffle sauce, consistently wins over truffle skeptics, while the simple caprese salad earns its claim to fame with topnotch mozzarella di bufala. Don’t let the one-pound meatball appetizer scare you off --- you’d have eaten that weight in smaller ones anyway, they’re that tasty. The expansive wine list is balanced between Italian and American selections at a nice range of prices --- a bonus at a restaurant where entrées top out in the upper $30s.
