 Il Cortile is a bright spot in the Paso restaurant scene. The gracious husband-and-wife team of Santos and Carole MacDonal assures that this is a welcoming spot for everyday or special occasions, with chef Santos and his culinary team turning out Southern Italian-inspired dishes. While mozzarella is considered its own food group here, seasonal ingredients shine in such dishes as the caprese panini, crispy grilled salmon, or house-made ravioli with ricotta and black trumpet mushrooms. However, it’s hard to pass up the spot-on, year-round classics like seafood risotto, decadent spaghetti all carbonara, and delicate panna cotta. Look for fun twists too, like dinners where diners pick the wine and Santos will create a custom meal around it. The ample wine list has local representation, plus a wide selection of Italian labels and a good by-the-glass list. Seating options range from the indoor main dining room and small bar area to the outdoor patio.
