il Garage Restaurant Review

: Park Ave. owner-chef David Slay has found an exciting way to utilize the old dairy farm garage that sits behind his Stanton restaurant. Adorned with rustic décor, the entire venue opens up to Slay’s herb garden, creating a relaxed al fresco dining experience. The Italian cuisine expresses the same kind of pastoral quality; handmade pasta and fresh produce culled onsite rule the menu, which changes often to take full advantage of whatever’s available. Make sure to start your meal with house-made focaccia. Appetizers such as roasted portobello mushroom with thyme, marjoram and lemon aïoli highlight the flavors of the garden, while the Santa Barbra mussels, American prosciutto, and handcrafted Italian salumi put a sharp focus on sterling relationships with trusted purveyors. Innovative takes on pasta dishes breathe an intriguing new life into main courses, while desserts like panna cotta provide a fitting end to a pleasant meal. The wine list offers plenty of options to complement each course. Guests with heartier palates will enjoy the il Cardinale cocktail, made with gin, dry vermouth and Campari.
